POS sales “cashes out” in the middle of sale

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

This problem is due to items being scanned too quickly in Cougar Mountain. To prevent this, adjust the “Reread” and “Good Read” delays on your barcode scanner. For the Handheld 3800g (Substruct’s recommend barcode imaging device) print or scan the barcode bellow. “Medium” speed is recommended for both.

AR Totals are incorrect or they don’t match the invoices dues.

Occasionally, Accounts Receivable total will be off. This is caused by Cougar Mountain for unknown reasons. To check for discrepancies, do the following:

  • In AR, go to Reports > Control. Click OK to run the report.
If their are errors or discrepancies, do the following:

Short barcodes are not scanning correctly

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Short barcodes on some merchandise may not scan correctly by default. These barcodes use the UPCE (usually UPCE0) symbology, and most aliases are stored in your Cougar Mountain installation in the standard 12 digit UPCA format. For reference, Ace sends down UPC information in UPCA format. To enable your scanner to convert UPCE to UPCA, do the following:

Symbol MC50 or MC9000 handheld scanners

  • From the Start screen, click on Scan Wedge in the bottom right hand corner of the home screen.
  • Click Config
  • Click Codes
  • Make sure UPCE0 is checked
  • Highlight UPCE0 and click Param
  • Click Cnvt to UPCA to switch the value to True.

Handheld Products (or Honeywell) 3800G

Print and scan the following “On” barcode.

Cannot Lock… Substruct Importer error

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Problem

“Cannot Lock…” error Substruct Importer. Most likely cause is that there is more than one Windows user locally logged on to the server. The first user runs SubstructImporter.exe  fine(runs automatically on loggon), and any consecutive users after the first cause an error on the respective users screen.

Solution

Log off all other users beside the first. It is a good idea to deny local log on for unnecessary users using the Windows Group Policy Editor

To deny log on locally:

Run > gpedit.msc

Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Deny logon locally > Right click > Properties. Then add users  you don’t want logging on.

Scanner won’t scan on Symbol handhelds (MC50, MC9000)

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Problem

The scanner will not work on a Symbol device (ie. MC50, MC9000)

Solution

Step One

Then either run the EXE or restart the device.

Step Two

  • Open IIS Manager[2].
  • Right click the folder where the exe-files are located and click Properties.
  • Click the “HTTP Headers” tab
  • Click on the “MIME Types” button
  • Click New
  • In the extension box, type .exe
  • In the MIME Type box, type application/octet-stream
  • Apply the new settings

Step 3

Disable “Content Expiration” on ScanWedge.exe in IIS.

IIS7 and Windows 7

1)  Open the IIS 7.0 Manager on the server

2)  Select the site and click on “Handler Mappings”

3)  Select “Add Module Mapping”

4)  Enter the fields on the window:

a)  Request Path:   where are the files to be found don’t put a leading slash.  Example: “_myVirtPath/*.exe” to allow all files ending in .exe to be downloaded when the request is for and executable file within the virtual path that you would have defined earlier.

b)  Module:  StaticFileModule - this will handle requests containing your request path and return the file to you.

c)  Executable:  don’t enter anything.

d)  Name:  whatever you want to call it:  “ClientSide Executables”

5)  Click on “Request Restrictions” and click on the “Invoke handler only if request is mapped to:” checkbox and ensure that “File” option is selected.  (This will only apply to files)

6)  Click on the “Access” tab.  Ensure that “Script” is selected.

7)  Click on “OK” to close this window

8)  Click on “OK” to close the main Handler screen.

Paid Out in POS causes drawer shortage

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Problem:

Paid out report in Substruct Utilities shows change given for a specific invoice and that amount is short in Cougar Mountain when closing a register.

Solution:

This is a bug in CMS. Whenever you recalled a paid out, it clears the tender field. Either don’t recalled paid outs, or if you do, hit “F6″ then “+” and then “Enter” to reclose out the sale.
